Revolutionizing Cafe Design: Hello Papaya

Designers Nikolay Yarin and Ilya Plotnikov Create a Tropical Oasis in the Heart of Moscow

What sets Hello Papaya apart is its unique design concept. Inspired by the lush atmosphere of the jungle, the designers have used abstract geometric shapes and meshes to create a vibrant, tropical ambiance. A large metal "cloud" above the counter guides the movement of guests and indicates the pick-up area, while the calm grey walls serve as a monochrome background for the brand's rich colors, drawing attention to the decorative elements.

The cafe, located in the SOK VTB Business center, is the second branch of the fast-food chain. The brand's focus on healthy food is reflected in its bright and fresh interior design. The space is divided into three parts: fast bar seatings, a classic dining seating area, and a comfortable sofa seating area, all designed for visitor convenience.

The project, which began at the end of 2019, was paused due to COVID-19 and finally completed in July 2020. Despite the challenges posed by the pandemic and a limited budget, the design team managed to create a well-designed space using simple and inexpensive materials. The decorative elements were made on demand, using materials such as plaster for the walls, handmade terrazzo tiles for the floors, and metallic frames with meshes for the decorative objects.

The designers' approach to the project was to create a special atmosphere and interior concept that was unique to the place. The result is a space that is not just a cafe, but a "theatre and attraction" that teleports visitors to a tropical village under the bright sun. The functional elements of the space, such as the bar counter and the hanging structure above it, blend seamlessly with the emotional elements, creating a comfortable ergonomics of space and perception.

Hello Papaya's innovative design has not gone unnoticed. In 2021, it was awarded Silver in the A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award, a prestigious accolade that recognizes top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable designs that showcase a remarkable level of excellence and introduce positive feelings, amazement, and wonder.
